A field trip around Bogotá...a good idea to work on language
I was invited this week to participate in a field trip organised by the Social Studies deparment at GV.
The objective of this trip was to let students acknowledge the reasons why Bogotá is a regional city, a term I wasn't aware of either...
The first place we visited was the Tax-free zone where we learnt lots of thing about Bogota's imports, commerce, industry and goods storage. After that, we headed for the west side of the city to see the fast growing problem of water pollution around Bogota's riverside. I wasn't the only one who was struck by the poor conditions in which many people were living near the river and to see the harsh reality of Bogota's social differences...this made me think of a good way to use language to discuss about these kinds of problems in language class.
During the field trip, students were remarkably interested about these problems and asked many questions to the guide.
